I have to confess that I broke down and wept a bit when I read theis story. I got "misty" because I know how true this story probably is. I've been proud companion to three dogs in my life; Elmer, a Beagle when I was a child; Sophie, a Boxer that adopted me when she was about three years old and I was 35, and our current dog, Maggie, another Boxer that Jess and I got as a 10 week old puppy; she's now almost 2 years old. I tell you A Truth: There is no other creature on the face of the planet that will give it's heart to you like a dog will. And it's not just about instinct and food. A beaten dog will still come when it's called, to a point anyway, but treat the dog with kindness and respect and you will have a lifelong friend who's nearly single minded purpose in life is to please you.
