This link will take you to a collection of propaganda posters from the WW I and WW II era, modified to express American Christian ideas. Each has some commentary by one Austin Cline, who is a Director for the Council for Secular Humanism and a former Publicity Coordinator for the CampusFreethought Alliance. His commentary concerning the dangerous road down which the Christian Right would lead this country is dead on. His line that says "If Fascism Comes to America, It Will Come Wrapped in the Flag & Carrying the Cross," is particularly prescient. Go there now and give it a read.

So, you thought only Muslim clerics issued fatwas instructing the faithful to kill? You would be wrong. Click on the above link to go to CNN to see Christian terrorist leader Pat Robertson calling for the assassination of a world leader, specifically, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, (scroll down about half-way to find the video link). Robertson's beef with Chavez is two-fold: 1) Robertson says Chavez is a communist dictator who will turn Venezuela into a Cuban style communist state which will then threaten the U.S., but more importantly, 2) Chavez may shut off shipments of oil to the U.S. (Venezuela is third on the list of places the U.S. buys it's oil from.) From my time in Seminary, I know that there has long been a debate over whether the sixth Commandment is supposed to read, "Thou shall not kill," or, "Thou shall not murder." The difference being that 'kill' would seem to contradict the capitol punishment system that the Judeo-Christian god estab...

So, political affiliation has become a litmus test for one's standing in the Church. If one doesn't toe the pastor's political line, one can expect to be voted out? Oh well, we shouldn't be so surprised that this type of thing would eventually happen within a system as closed as Christianity. The Christian world view refuses to accept even the possibility that there might be room for other religions in the world (except for Judaism), so why shouldn't they apply their myopic views to politics? We don't know anything about the disciples' political beliefs, I wish we did. Then we would know which ones Jesus should have kicked out. Outside of the Gospels (first 4 books of the New Testament), one doesn't read much of anything about the majority of Jesus first followers, perhaps that's because they were all discovered to be Roman sympathizers and were then booted out of the club. Mind you, I don't know about that, its only a guess........
