More on the 9-11 Joke

I have more on the 9-11 joke. MSNBC has a video from their nightly news that covered the story, but I couldn't find a copy of the whole transcript. Anyhoo, the girl the mother couldn't control was only 12(!), not 13, and it happened in Texas (even better), not Florida. Yep, they're doin' just fine down there in Jesus Land.

CNN Story | 9-11 Call

So, I was watching CNN yesterday (I know, I know, I’m a news junkie) and there’s a story about this woman who calls 9-11 because her kids are so unruly that she can’t control them. I have searched the interweb for the transcript of this call, but even CNN’s site doesn’t have it. Anyway, I’ll try to give it to you as best as I can remember: 9-11: “Hello, 9-11.” Caller: “Yes, I need help with my children. I’ve come home and they’re fighting and breaking things, the whole house is torn apart. I’ve got a 13 year old and an 11 year old and the 13 year old is as big as me and I just can’t control her anymore.” 9-11: “Sure, would you like us to come over there and shoot ‘em?” Caller: “What did you say?” 9-11: “I’m sorry ma’am. It was a joke. I am sorry.” At this point it is just her yelling at him and telling him she’s gonna speak with his supervisor and him apologizing again, and her yelling some more. Now, I gotta tell you, my sympathies are totally with the 9-11 operator. I probably would

BBC NEWS | Clinton boosts child Aids fight

Here we have another fine example of former Democratic Party presidents actually doing something to make the world a better place. I truly hope the Clinton Foundation follows up this bit of goodness by going on to bigger things. President Clinton's foundation follows in the footsteps of President Carter's home building efforts. What did Reagan do when he got out of office? Nothing. Granted, he only had a few years of lucidity left. But what did Bush The First do when he left office. Nothing. Well, he did play golf and make money with his cronies. I expect that Bush The Second will probably not begin some sort of humanitarian foundation after his term in office is over. He'll probably go on to become the leader of a Christian, right-wing lobby group that pushes a Christian Taliban agenda.

Gas Prices

Sittin' here watching CNN and reporter Chris Huntington is talking about how we here in the U.S. have the lowest gas prices in the world. And yet, even as the government keeps gas prices artificially low, people over here still complain and bitch about how expensive it is to drive. Consider that in England, petrol is about $5.64 a gallon. In Holland, its over $6.00 a gallon. The point Huntington makes is that in Europe, gas is heavily taxed. The actual price for a gallon of gas in England is about $2.30, the other $3.30 is taxes. Taxes for road maintenance and schools and public transit. Huntington goes on to say that in America, especially on the west coast, there is now a high demand for the new hybrid cars in response to the price of gas at the pump. I personally believe that we should do the same thing here in the States. We should tax gas very heavily in order to pay for things like public transit and road maintenance. Just like my proposed School Tax (which has people with ch
