Just Checking In

Hey Kids!

I know it's been quite some time since my last posting. I'm sure whatever readers I had are long gone, having given up hope of seeing a new post from me any time soon. But, haha, here I am!

My summer internship with the Washington State Democrats continues. We moved the offices from First Avenue (Pioneer Square in Seattle) to Second Avenue (still Pioneer Square) last week, and then everyone took a four day weekend. So, the deployment of the new server and wireless network has just now begun in earnest. I was in the office until 11:00PM last night, and will probably be there late tonight again. I have every confidence that I will be able to get that server up and running by the end of the weekend, and then I'm thinking about taking a few more days off! But that all depends on my being able to get this thing going.

Over the four day weekend, Jessica and I went camping with some friends at Ross Lake and had a wonderful time. We met some people from Israel out there and spent a morning talking with them about the situation in the Middle East. I asked them if the news reports we're getting over here are accurate, and they said it depends on which network one is watching. It sounds like, according to them, CNN is doing a pretty fair job of reporting, while FOX News focuses on the death and destruction. They said it's scary over there, but they didn't seem too worried about things themselves. In fact, I was surprised at the way they talked about what is happening over there. It was a certain nonchallance (sp?), like it was just another inconvenience one had to deal with. I suppose if one has grown up all one's life with that threat of violence hanging over one's head constantly that one does kind of just get used to it. Any way, they said they were from Tel Aviv and they didn't think any bombs would be falling on their heads when they got back home from vacation.

Well, that's all I've got for now. I'll try to write more soon.

Friends don't let friends vote for Bush

I have a friend who, I’m very nearly certain, voted for Bush. He told me as recently as a week prior to the election that he was considering voting for Bush because of the terrorism issue. I’m thinking very seriously about cutting him off as a friend. You see, the problem isn’t necessarily that he voted for Bush, it’s that I no longer respect him for coming to that decision. Having succumbed to America’s jingoistic view of Muslims I now think that perhaps my friend doesn’t have the intellectual agility I originally credited to him. Is there any one else out there who feels betrayed by a friend who voted for Bush? I’m interested in reader’s opinions on the matter so please post a comment.

Away Too Long

I know...I know, its been far too long since my last post. But I'm here now and I'll catch you up on everything. So, since getting laid-off, I have been thinking about going back to school. The thing is, I've been thinking about going back for 10 years, but the thought of it always filled me with terror because I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do. Well, I decided to go to Seattle Central and get a certificate in computer networking. My thinking is this: get certified in something that leads to working smart instead of hard. Then, that job can take me back to school for something I really want to do. So anyway, there is a program through Unemployment Insurance called the Commissioner Approved Training Plan that allows one to go to school while still recieving one's unemployment benefits, without having to do the weekly job searches. The program doesn't pay for school, it just allows one to go to school and not have to work. Sounds like a great program, huh?...

How Boring

OK, so I decided that I wasn't going to write anything political, that I was just gonna write about personal stuff. And I haven't written a thing in two weeks. How boring is my life? But I've got some stuff coming.....
