Ch-Ch-Changes

Nearing 40 years of age, I have learned that most all good things must come to an end. Good places to be, good friends, good lovers, good times, they come and they go. And so it is with careers sometimes too. A few weeks ago, the company I work for had a company wide meeting of all departments to announce impending lay-offs. And for a variety of reasons, I think I'm for the chop. Technology is to blame. We used to be in and out of the Federal courts all the time, filing cases and retrieving documents and doing all the things that legal messengers do. But now electronic signatures are recognized as legal, so lawyers can electronically file those documents without leaving their office, or having to pay us to do it, so they don't have to leave their office. DAMN YOU INTERWEB! We are already seeing the loss of revenue from this. Anyway, sooner or later this will be the case in all the courts. As I understand it, the reason its not already is because the Feds only recognized certain...

St. Patrick's Day

So, how was everyone's Amature Night? Most of the true drinkers I know will tell you to stay home on St. Pat's Day so as to not get caught up in all the foolishness that rookies bring to the table. Same goes for Cinco de Mayo. Besides why do people in America celebrate a Mexican holiday? Do you think there are lots of Mexicans down there celebrating our Fourth of July?

Green Apartments

Jessica and I saw these green apartments on Sunday while we were out apartment hunting. I don't think they had any openings, and I don't think we would have looked at them if they had. I think I would feel uneasy living somewhere that green. I mean its really, really, green. GREEN!

The Two-State Solution, Residents of Eastern Washington want to split Washington in two. Why not cut the rubes loose?, by Sandeep Kaushik (03/10/05)

The idea of giving the conservatives a state of Eastern Washington in exchange for a state of Washington D.C., is an interesting one. And, again, I say, LET THEM FUCKING DO IT, and, GOOD RIDDANCE. Also, as an editorial note: In my previous post, when discussing the possible illegality of our state's recent gubernatorial election, I considered using the phrase: 'I don't care if Christine Gregoire was down on Second and Yesler, giving blowjobs to convicts in exchange for their votes...' I did not use the phrase because I thought I might get in trouble, somehow. This omission has gotten me the nickname of "pussy" from Jerimiah. No longer able to live with my shame I submit the phrase to you, dear readers. And from now on I'll keep my first drafts to myself.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer: Some GOP senators want Eastern Washington as a state unto itself

Well, Washington state republicans have revealed themselves to be the whining little pussies that they really are. They are saying that the talk about splitting Washington state is not sour grapes over losing the gubernatorial race, but that's just not true. The fact is that they can't handle a taste of their own medicine. By that I mean, when an un-elected republican was named President by the Supreme Court, Democrats didn't run around calling for a separate blue-stated country to be created. Well, okay, we did, but no one introduced a bill into the legislature. American liberals had to deal with the fact than George W. Bush was going to be our President, even though he didn't win the popular vote. Yes, just like state Repub's, national Dems did challenge the 2000 election results in the courts, but soon it was over and we all had to deal. I guess what I'm saying is: I don't give a shit if the vote in Washington was illegal. Don't get me wrong, I don...

Cases for Auschwitz

From the 'Things I See At Work' files. This was actually from the other day but I just ran across the photo... The sign was outside Seattle U's Law School building. I'm sure it has something to do with lawyers being able to argue even the most repugnant of cases for their clients. But can you imagine how one might begin this discussion? If any of you would care to take a crack at it, I'll start you off: Auschwitz was a good idea because...........

Another Beautiful Day

Stayed home today to get some stuff done. What a beautiful day in Seattle, huh? That sleet yesterday was a trip! I was dispatching in the morning when it happened and we had to pull folks off their bikes for about 30 minutes. Ah well, its good for a bike messenger to walk every once in a while, gives 'em perspective. Anyway, I'm kinda glad its at least colder. The sleet yesterday and the coldness lately make my prediction of snow in March much more believable.

Friday Morning

Ahh...the sound of rain on the sky-window. A return to normalcy for this time of year. Well, almost, its still 50 degrees outside. I gotta tell ya, this weather has been freaking me out. Beautiful? Absolutely! (Imagine all the pretty pink outfits Sprizee has been able to wear.) But wrong for this time of year. All I'm saying is, I've gotten too accustomed to wearing the Spring Riding Ensemble, and its gonna doubly suck when this false-spring ends and I have to go back to the Winter Riding Ensemble. And it must end... because its only February! I am hereby, formally prognosticating snow fall in March. Mark my words people. Snowboarders rejoice!

George Bush Gets Lucky!

Alright, let it be said that I was happy to see the Iraqi elections take place with as little violence as there was. After threatening to "bathe the streets of Baghdad in voter's blood," the insurgents came nowhere near. It would seem -- and I say this grudgingly -- something has gone right for the Bush administration in Iraq. I say Bush got lucky, but they're inevitably going to take credit for it. Now, if I were a bettin' man, I'd be willing to bet a substantial amount of money that at some point this week, on the nightly news shows, we're going to see the neo-cons take to the airwaves to proclaim the good news that George Bush has delivered democracy to the Middle East, and then they'll look us in the face and tell us that , is why we went to Iraq. Its at that point that we must still hold the administration accountable because, of course, that is not what we were told. We were told lies about weapons of mass destruction. When that didn't wo...

Not the X-Box's Fault

Its not like I've been playin x-box all this time. No, there was a week when Qwest wasn't letting me use the internets, again. That sucks. But now I'm back online and there will soon be postings galore! I promise.

I Love Snow

Being raised in Indianapolis, and spending time in Alaska as an adult, I am spoiled for having snow at the holidays. I really wanted to see some snow when we woke up on Friday, but I'll take it today.

So Very Lame

I know...I know, I'm lame. I've let the New Year come with no postings. None of the thoughtful, insightful commentary you've come to expect. I attribute this appalling lack of attention to you, my dear readers - all three of you and you know who you are - to the new X-Box system and all of the fine games I now own, and to the new porn site subscription (wow, the movies really are longer!). And yes, ladies, I am taken. Anyhoo...I'll be back to posting, just as soon as I finish playing MechAssault, or Halo 2 (again) or Splinter Cell, or maybe................................
